6 1/2 Years for Mastermind of Multinational Piracy of Microsoft Software
   Conspirators of the grand multinational piracy dismantled by the MPS (Ministry of Public Security) and FBI (U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation) joint operation were sentenced by a local court in Futian District of Shenzhen, Guangdong on December 31, 2008. Prison term and fine are imposed on all 11 prosecuted suspects with 6.5 years and 1.5 million yuan on the top felon. The three most key criminals, Wang Wenhua, Zhang Da'an and Che Tingfeng will do time for 6 years 6 months, 5 years, 3 years 6 months respectively in addition to 1.5 million yuan, 400,000 yuan and 800,000 yuan fines. The remaining 8 will be behind bars ranging from 1 year and 6 months to 3 years and 6 months. The MPS-FBI cooperative effort in an operation codenamed Summer Solstice back in July 2007 led to break of two criminal cases of manufacturing and distributing of Microsoft's software including Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Family and Office2003.
